Adirondack Sports Council partners with Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival organizers to manage 2023 Event
SCHROON LAKE, N.Y. --- Registration is open for the 27th Annual Adirondack Marathon, Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, in Schroon Lake, N.Y. Runners who register before June 15 save up to 20% on the entry fee. Don’t delay, click HERE to register.
“Attracting runners from throughout the United States and Canada, the Adirondack Marathon is one of the north country region’s most anticipated events,” said Ashley Walden, Adirondack Sports Council Executive Director. “We’re honored to partner with the event organizers to help support this year’s race and grow the event for the future of the Schroon Lake community, the participants and everyone involved in the entire weekend-long Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival.”
As a partner to the Sept. 30-Oct. 1 Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival, the Adirondack Sports Council will provide an updated website, marketing, promotion and assist with on-site activities during this year’s event and will move into full management of the race beginning in 2024.
“The Adirondack Marathon has been successfully run by a group of dedicated volunteers for 26 years and now it is time to pass the torch” added Race Director Joel Friedman. “The Adirondack Sports Council has displayed their experience and knowledge as the organizing committee to January’s Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games, February’s Empire State Winter Games and most recently the Wilmington Whiteface 100K MTB Race. We’re excited to see the future of the race develop under their leadership.”
Walden added, “The Sports Council continues to seek opportunities like the Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival to support economic growth and encourage active lifestyles throughout the Adirondacks.”
Limited to 500 participants, 16 and older, the 27th Adirondack Marathon begins on Schroon Lake’s Main Street and follows the shores of scenic Schroon Lake before entering wooded trails, neighboring communities, and finishing at the Town of Schroon public beach.
Bryan Morseman set the men’s course record in 2014, when he completed the 26.2-mile course in 2 hours, 26 minutes: 58 seconds. The women’s course record was set in 1997 when Simone Stoeppler crossed the finish line in 3:04:22.
In addition to the marathon, the festival also features a half-marathon (13.1 miles), two and four person relays, 5k, 10k and a kids fun run.
